Classes Offered
Robotics
Robotics is a STEAM-based* course
This class will have lessons using VEX and Scratch.
VEX Robotics is an educational robotics program for everyone. It encourages creativity, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving among groups.
Scratch is a visual programming language that allows students to create their own interactive stories, games and animations. As students design Scratch projects, they learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.
*STEAM is Science Technology Engineering Arts Math
Arts & Crafts
Students make arts and crafts connected to worldwide traditions and celebrations. This exposure helps students broaden their understanding of the world and develop their artistic skills.
English Language Arts
English Language Arts (ELA) is equivalent to Japanese & Literature in Japan. At CFIS, we focus on the four important elements of English language communication: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Three levels:
Beginner (very little to no English experience)
Intermediate (understands phonetics and some English speaking ability)
Advanced (can already read and speak English enough to understand instructions and explain their thinking)
By using a US Common Core objectives-based curriculum, we help our students learn English the way native students do.
Fitness Class
The CFIS Fitness program has been developed by experienced instructors with the aim to teach children the importance of physical activity and body awareness.
Students will be challenged with different exercises every week while enjoying team games and fun physical activities.

FAQs
When will the schedule for each day of the after school be available?
The tentative schedule generally follows the weekly schedule, but we plan to have Robotics class with VEX and CodeSpark on Tuesdays and Thursdays as soon as students gather, and we are also considering MUSIC on Wednesdays. Music class can be temporary or changed to any other Art classes upon teacher’s availability such as Dance or Theater.
I heard there's a special discount if I apply by December 15th. Could you clarify if this discount applies to the enrollment fee or to the tuition fee?
The discount applies to the tuition fee.
If I enroll for 2 or 3 days a week, will the parents pick up the child from CFIS?
Parents will have to pick up students from CFIS until March 2024. Starting from April, we plan to arrange home drop-off as well once we have a sufficient number of students. However, the drop-off area is limited to within the elementary school’s districts.
Are after-school programs offered during summer vacation? Are monthly fees applied uniformly even on days without regular classes, such as holidays or year-end breaks?
The after-school program takes a break during the summer period. In months with a continuous week-long break according to the annual calendar, the monthly fee will be invoiced minus that week. However, for single-day Japanese public holidays, the monthly fee remains uniformly charged.
Is it possible to request a temporary suspension only for the duration of the summer break through advance application?
Yes, it is possible. However, to reserve your space during the period you are not attending, there is a monthly fee of 3,300 yen. If you also wish to secure a spot for the bus, the monthly fee during the suspended months will be 5,500 yen. The temporary suspension option can be utilized for up to 2 consecutive months. After this period, if your child has not returned, they will be automatically withdrawn from the program.
Is there a designated time for elementary school homework and can students ask questions about unclear points?
Students are encouraged to do their elementary school homework before 15:30. There will be no help available from CFIS staff for elementary school homework as they are not licensed school teachers.
Are there provisions for make up classes in case of illness or other health issues?
There will be no make up classes for the 15:30 – 17:30 after school classes. However, students can make up in regular after school extension care in the gym/free play.
Initially, when starting elementary school with irregular hours, would it be possible to pick up the child based on the school's schedule?
Since the after school schedule starts from 14:00, pick ups from the elementary schools will start from that time. Until that time, the students will have to be in the extended after school care provided by the student’s current elementary school.
Can the application process be completed online or through the mail? Or will the paperwork only be available to receive at the trial lessons?
The formal enrollment can be done online, but there will be some other paperwork that can be printed out at or mailed to you upon request.
HISTORY
About Central Forest International School's Preschool & Kindergarten: CFIS was founded in September 2011, with a pre-opening phase in November 2011 and full-scale operations commencing in April 2012. Initially occupying only the 2nd and 3rd floor, a few years later we expanded our facilities to the whole building, including the construction of a gym and library, and extended our school bus service. From 2018, the school started partnering with Global Step Academy, enabling us to offer GSA Online lessons as an additional service to our kindergarten students. Today, we are a well-established international preschool and kindergarten, serving international-minded Japanese families as well as a significant number of American students, primarily from US military families, and an increasing population of Indian students. We have also welcomed families from Korea, China, the Philippines, and Russia. Our truly international environment sets us apart, especially considering that most international preschools outside of central Tokyo predominantly enroll Japanese students. Moreover, our approach to learning is recognized for being both educational and enjoyable, earning us the reputation as the “fun” school where children can learn while still being kids. The dedication and exceptional efforts of our teachers in nurturing children’s learning have fostered strong, open relationships with our students’ families. It’s worth noting that some of our teachers have been with CFIS since its inception, which is a rarity in the field.
